Three key elements that make Japanese wagyu so unique are 100% wagyu genetics, special feed ration, and extreme care. Japanese wagyu cattle originate from either one of the four breeds: Japanese Black (黒毛和種, Kuroge Washu), Japanese Polled (無角和種, Mukaku Washu), Japanese Brown (赤毛和種, Akage Washu) and Japanese Shorthorn (日本短角和種, Nihon Tankaku Washu). They have special low energy diet consisting of corn, barley, and on occasion roasted soy beans.
